Where do you buy your foundation cloth (a.k.a monks cloth)?
I buy my monks cloth from fabric stores, amazon, and arts and craft stores. For links, check out my ebook, the last page has links to all the products I use.
Where do you buy your yarn?
I buy yarn all over. I search for texture and color. I do not usually purchase my yarn online because the colors can be different than what you expect based on the images. I much prefer going to arts and craft stores and sourcing from there. The place I purchase from most often is Michaels.
My foundation cloth keeps losing its tightness while punching, what should I do?
Try purchasing a non-slip hoop. In my yarn kits, I provide a Morgan non-slip hoop. This helps reduce the amount that you foundation cloth loses its tightness. Also, keep in mind that the type of foundation cloth also is part of the issue. Cotton-based fabrics will stretch more, linen tends to keep its structure longer.
What type of punch needle do you use?
I use a #10 oxford punch needle and an adjustable punch needle. The adjustable punch needle comes in my yarn kit, it is easy to use and very versatile as you try to find your own punch needle aesthetic.
What backing cloth do you use?
I use utility cloth. You can use any fabric really, but if you are choosing to glue the back of your piece then make sure the backing cloth is tightly woven enough the glue wont seep through.
How do you finish your tapestries?
I glue the back of my tapestries and then cover them with fabric. I have recently begun to transition to using a heat n bond fabric to replace the gluing process and LOVE it. I have an IGTV video dedicated to this process that you can watch.
